To determine: The resultant of the process if a significant number of glomerular capillaries were clogged in a person with high blood glucose concentration for a long period of time.
Introduction: The urinary system is also known as the renal system. It consists of kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra. The urinary system is important to eliminate nitrogenous waste such as ammonia, urea, and uric acid out of the body. Kidney is an important organ of the excretory system.
Explanation of Solution
The glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is tightly regulated due to the amount of substances reabsorbed into the blood and the amount of urine excreted. GFR is influenced by both changing the luminal diameter of afferent arteriole and by altering the surface area of the filtration membrane. If various glomerular capillaries were clogged in case of one individual with high blood pressure then the GFR would be decreased greatly. This will cause decrease in removal of waste materials (toxic substances) out of the blood. This may leads to kidney disorders if it occurs for a long period of time in an individual with high blood glucose concentration.
