Concept explainers
To determine:
The region of the brain which is affected by the stroke, as a patient has suffered a stroke and is unable to speak. The patient can understand the verbal and the written message, but he is unable to express himself verbally.
Concept introduction:
The damage to a region of the brain is caused by the occurrence of stroke in the patient. This has caused the incoordination in communicating with others and the affected individual lacks the ability to express themselves verbally. The left hemisphere of the brain has the Broca’s area and Wernicke’s area, which coordinate the communication and the language development in the brain. The right hemisphere is responsible for the control of the spatial and orientation development.

These symptoms were quickly followed by numbness and partial paralysis on the tipper right side of his body, accompanied by an inability to speak. After being rushed to the emergency room, Julio was diagnosed as having suffered a stroke. Given the observed neurological impairment, what areas of his brain were affected?arrow_forwardWatch this video (http://openstaxcollege.org/l/neuroexam) that provides a demonstration of the neurological exam—a series of tests that can be performed rapidly when a patient is initially brought into an emergency department. The exam can be repeated on a regular basis to keep a record of how and if neurological function changes over time. In what order were the sections of the neurological exam tested in this video, and which section seemed to be left out?arrow_forward:A lesion in the cortex of CN VII will cause a patient to lose IPSILATERAL UPPER FACECONTRALATERAL LOWER FACE, CONTRALATERAL LOWER FACE, IPSILATERAL UPPER FACE CONTRALATERAL LOWER FACE ONLY CONTRALATERAL LOWER FACE, CONTRALATER LOWER FACE ?Which part of the brain controls higher mental activities like reasoning Cerebellum Temporal lobe Frontal lobe Medulla oblongataarrow_forward
