The speciation is the process of formation of new species. It may be gradual or may occur in bursts. On a global level, earth has seen times of relatively little change in the landscape but also periods of rapid speciation and times of mass extinctions. Within a short period of time, one species can evolve rapidly and another hardly changes at all. Therefore, speciation can occur quickly, gradually or at any rate in between.
