Chapter 15, Problem 5CAL
Summary Introduction

Introduction:

The parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) regulates the basic functions (secretions of the digestive tract and the sensitivity). The PNS is very important for the normal functioning of the body. The tenth cranial nerve (vagus nerve) supplies the parasympathetic fibers to the heart. These fibers are connected to the sinoatrial node and the atrioventricular node of the heart. The secretion of the vague nerves is a neurotransmitter (acetylcholine) that stimulates the heart. This results in the reduced heart contraction that reduces the heart rate.
