The process of clonal expansion is related with the immunological response given by the lymphocytes. It states that both the B cells and T cells contain antigen receptors, which bind to only a specific type of antigen. The B cells that have antigen receptors, which bind to the antigen and start dividing to produce many new cells. The antigen is therefore said to select the B cells for the division.
