In some conditions, wind can be a significant agent in the development of topography. The landforms that are formed by the action of winds is known as aeolian landforms. The three principal conditions that are necessary for wind to be an effective geomorphic agent include sparse vegetative cover, the presence of dry, loose materials at the surface, and a wind velocity that is high enough to pick up and transport those surface materials. Most commonly, these three conditions are prevailing in arid regions and in coastal locations.
