Why the adrenal medulla can be considered part of the sympathetic nervous system, what products it secretes when it is stimulated.
Introduction:
Adrenal gland, an endocrine gland, is situated just above the kidney as a capping structure. Adrenal gland consists of two parts namely the outer cortex and inner medulla. The outer cortex secretes the corticosteroid hormones, while the inner medulla secretes two important hormones namely epinephrine and norepinephrine, which are emergency hormones secreted at the time of fight or flight response. These hormones tend to increase the heartbeat, glucose output in the blood stream from reserve, and blood pressure. This adrenal gland is innervated by the sympathetic ganglion.
