Summary Introduction

Introduction:

Cognitive therapy was given by Aaron T. Beck. The aim of this theory is to help people in changing their ways of thinking. The main focus of the cognitive therapist is on distorted thinking and unrealistic beliefs which results in maladaptive behavior or depression. The main aim is to help out the patient in a more objective and scientific manner. They work to replace the thoughts that are negative and distorted with more positive and helpful thoughts. More common distortions in thought such as arbitrary inference, selective thinking and overgeneralization can make negative feelings and unrealistic beliefs in people.
