Childhood obesity is a public health issue. It occurs when a child is above their normal weight as per their age and height. The causes may be genetics and behavior or lifestyle. Obesity in children can be serious as it would continue to occur during adulthood also. There is a risk of high cholesterol and high blood pressure, which are the factors that lead to cardiovascular diseases. There are other conditions such as type 2 diabetes, breathing problems, fatty liver disease, and musculoskeletal discomfort. Another factor is psychological issues with children. They include anxiety and low self-esteem, which may lead to depression. The environment and community will also be unhealthy. There will be decreased life expectancy in the case of overweight and obese individuals. This causes health burden, and thus impacts health expenditures.
