Chapter 17, Problem 15RTC
Summary Introduction
To write:
Calcium concentration increase results in muscular contraction.
Introduction:
Muscular contraction is related to calcium ion concentration. Mainly striated muscles show this contraction. Striated muscles contain repeating sarcomeres which contain thin actin and thick myosin filaments. During the muscle contraction, the myosin head binds to the actin. This results in the hydrolysis of ATP and relative sliding of the actin and myosin filaments. Vertebrate muscle contraction is regulated by the protein troponin and tropomyosin.
