Chapter 17, Problem 1CAQ
Summary Introduction

To review:

The given blank space in the statement, “On the Epworth Sleepiness scale, scores less than _________ are normal, and scores higher than __________ may suggest the need for additional evaluation by a sleep specialist.”

Introduction:

Sleep is a state of partial unconsciousness, in which the skeletal muscles’ activity gets diminished, and the metabolism is in a depressed state. A person who is sleeping can be awakened by stimulation. The difference between coma and sleep is that sleep is reversible. The amount of sleep depends on the body size. For example, an elephant or a giraffe sleeps about 3-4 hours, bats sleep for 18 hours, a newborn sleep for 17 hours, and an adult sleep for 6-8 hours.
