Concept explainers
To compare: The characteristics of phylum Annelida from other phyla.
Introduction: All the animal species on Earth are classified into different phyla or groups. They are classified on the basis of their characters, morphology, anatomy, and, most importantly their phylogeny. One of these phyla is named as Annelida. Some examples are marine bristle worms, leeches, and earthworms.
Explanation of Solution
The phylum Annelida consists of species that have segmented bodies. Two other phyla also have members with segmented bodies. Every segment contains a coelomic cavity which is fluid-filled. The segments in species of Annelida have septa which prevent the fluid in one segment from flowing to another. This characteristic is absent in leeches. Annelids have setae and parapodia also.
