The mechanism by which different facets of somitogenesis such as axis elongation, the determination front and the clock are precisely coordinated to respond the change.
Introduction:
The process of formation of somites is known as somitogenesis. The appearence of the somites on both sides of the embryo is takes place at the same time. The segmentation of the presomitic mesoderm regulated to occur at appropriate time and correct direction. This synchronization of somite formation is explained by the clock-wavefront model proposed by Cooke and Zeeman. According to this model, two converging systems which interacts are as follows: wavefront ( where boundary formed) and the clock (when epithelial boundary formation should be takes place). The clock like oscillating signals of notch pathway regulates the segmentation.
