Concept Introduction:

Barbiturates and benzodiazepines are depressants that are obtained legally, though the Barbiturates are drugs that were used to treat anxiety and insomnia from 1912 to 1960. They were taken orally. Barbiturates induced both physical and psychological dependence and other effects like restlessness, hallucination.

Benzodiazepines are drugs that are used to treat anxiety and insomnia today. They are less harmful than barbiturates.
