Four Definitions of information:
- Data are facts or figures which are recorded and information is the knowledge derived from certain information.
- Information can be also defined as a data that is presented in a meaningful context.
- When the data is summarized, ordered, grouped, averaged or compared, it is referred as Information as knowledge can be extracted from it.
- Information can also be defined as a difference that makes a difference.
Favorite Definition:
- The most favorite definition of information is – “Information can be defined as a data that is presented in a meaningful context.
The above definition depicts the difference between data and information as both terms are mostly confused to be the same. Data on its own is irrelevant, when the data is grouped together it has a meaning, and this is called Information.
