The thyroid is an endocrine gland. It is a very important gland which secretes thyroxin hormone; a pair of hormones T3 (triiodothyroxine)and T4 (tetraiodothyroxine). They are formed with the help of iodine, and the deficiency of iodine results in goiter disease in which there is deficiency of T3 and T4 hormones.
