Chapter 18, Problem 3AAE
Summary Introduction
To determine: Whether the immune system will be prevented from killing foreign cells through complement system for an animal that has been given a drug that blocks phagocytosis.
Introduction: Phagocytosis is a process in which the cell engulfs the invading microbe or any other antigen using its plasma membrane. The term “phagocytosis” in Greek means “Cell eating”. In eukaryotes, phagocytosis is the major mechanism that is involved in eliminating the harmful antigens for example: macrophages, neutrophils, and dendritic cells.
