Hypertension can be defined as the medical condition in which the blood pressure rises above 140/90 mm Hg (millimeters of mercury). A high blood pressure leads to increased strain on the heart, which leads to damage to the arteries. Due to the high blood pressure, the heart has to put extra effort to push blood throughout the body.
