Chapter 19, Problem 17CP
Summary Introduction
To review:
The similarities and difference between the bone marrow transplant and the cord blood transplant.
Introduction:
The replacement of the abnormal or cancerous red bone marrow of a person with a healthy one, so as to establish a normal count of the blood cells is known as the bone marrow transplant. The cord blood transplant, on the other hand, involves the collection of blood from the umbilical cord. Both the processes involve the extraction of the stem cells to induce the production of other cells, which have lost their function due to some abnormality in the body.
