Chapter 19, Problem 6TYU
Summary Introduction

To draw: A diagram showing the replicative cycle of a virus having single-stranded genome which can function as mRNA.

Concept introduction: Viruses are minute infectious organisms that have either single-stranded (ss) or double-stranded (ds) DNA or RNA as their genome. The virus is classified into seven classes based on the Baltimore classification system based on the genome and strand characteristics. The genome of a single-stranded virus can be either positive (+) sense or negative (-) sense. Group IV virus is a positive sense single-stranded RNA virus that includes viruses, such as dengue virus and hepatitis C virus. These viruses directly use the genomic RNA as mRNA to synthesize the viral proteins.
