Summary Introduction
To review:
The size, microscopic appearance, and function of erythrocytes, which are also called red blood cells (RBCs).
Introduction:
Red blood cells that represent more than 99 percent of the formed elements are named so because of their red color. These cells are circular, biconcave, and enucleated in mammals (except camel and Llama where they are oval and nucleated). RBC contains hemoglobin as a respiratory pigment that carries oxygen from the lungs to all parts of the body.
