The word atmosphere is made from two Greek words-atmos and sphaira. The word atmos means vapor and the word sphaira means sphere. So, the atmosphere is the envelope or gaseous shell of air surrounding the Earth.
The divisions of the atmosphere based on temperature are troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere and thermosphere.
The mesosphere is formed from the Greek word “meso” which means middle. As the height increases, the temperature of mesosphere decreases.
