Concept explainers
To review:
The principles that define an object as microscopic.
Introduction:
The size of every living and non-living thing varies at a vast level. Even human beings also vary in size from person to person. Human eyes also have a limit to view the objects that are present in the surrounding world. Human beings, as well as several other higher animals, possess eyes in order to visualize the surrounding world.
Explanation of Solution
The resolution power of the human eyes determines whether the nearby things and objects will be visible or not. The minimum distance between two objects that enables their vision as a separate object is termed as resolution. Several entities in the living world are so minute that they can be detected but cannot be resolved as separate entities. This means that such objects cannot be seen as a separate entity.
In order to view such objects separately, the eyes must equipped with an equipment that enhances the resolution power of eyes. Such objects that can be seen clearly through equipped/aided eyes only are termed as microscopic. The human eyes can view the objects that are one-tenth of a millimetre. Thus, objects lesser than the size of one-tenth of a millimetres are termed as microscopic.
