Chapter 2, Problem 2CT
Summary Introduction
To review:
The reason for the shedding off of the skin cells simultaneously upon damage.
Introduction:
The outer layer of the skin is made up of epidermal cells. The epidermis is a self-renewing system. Old cells of the skin are shed off from the skin surface and replaced by the new cells known as keratinocytes. Keratinocytes are produced in the underlying epidermis and come outward to become “corneocytes.” When the skin is damaged from the sunburn peels, several epidermal cells shed off simultaneously.
