Chapter 2, Problem 44P
In the preceding problem we saw that a person's reaction time is generally not quick enough to allow the person to catch a $1 bill dropped between the fingers. The 16 cm length of the bill passes through a student's fingers before she can grab it if she has a typical 0.25 s reaction time. How long would a bill need to be for her to have a good chance of catching it?

Consider two cars, a 700kg Porsche and a 600kg Honda Civic. The Porsche is speeding along at 40 m/s (mph) and the Civic is going half the speed at 20 m/s. If the two cars brake to a stop with the same constant acceleration, are either the amount of time required to come to a stop, or the distance traveled prior to stopping influenced by their initial velocity?
A tortoise can run with a speed of 0.11 m/s, and a hare can run 20 times as fast. In a race, they both start at the same time, but the hare stops to rest for 1.0 minutes. The tortoise wins by a shell (40 cm). How long does the race take? What is the length of the race?
An athlete wants to run a 1500m race with an average velocity of 6.00 m/s. After running the first 500m, he notices that the time elapsed is 100 seconds. Panicking, he accelerates for “t” seconds at 0.2 m/seconds^2 and finishes the race at his new faster speed. He makes it just in time. How long did he accelerate for? (Use 5 significant figures in the answer)
