To define: The term buffer.
Introduction: The changes in the pH value of the body are managed with the help of three systems: buffers, ventilation, and renal regulation of H+ and HCO3. These systems are very efficient in moderating the pH of the body.
To list: The three intercellular buffers.
Introduction: pH regulation is very important for the human body. Abnormal pH levels can affect the nervous system. Increase in hydrogen ion concentration leads to low pH; this condition is called acidosis. A decrease in hydrogen ion concentration leads to an increase in pH; this condition is called alkalosis.
To determine: The primary extracellular buffer.
Introduction: Buffers help in maintaining the change in the pH of the solution. In the body, these buffers are present as intracellular as well as extracellular.
