The relation between sound and energy.
Answer to Problem 1RCQ
Solution:
Sound waves propagate as compressions and rarefactions and carry energy along as they travel in the medium.
Explanation of Solution
Sound is a form of energy only. Sound waves are longitudinal waves having some frequency and amplitude. As sound waves travel, they cause mechanical vibrations in the medium in the form of compressions and rarefactions carrying energy through the medium in the direction of propagation.
Conclusion:
For sound waves, the mechanism for energy transfer is a particle to particle collisions in the medium transmitting it.
