The differences between noise and music
Answer to Problem 1RCQ
Solution:
Noise | Music |
Sound with a continuous structur. | Sound with a discrete structur. |
Disturbance to ear. | Pleasant feeling to the ears. |
Sounds with continuous range of frequencies, not necessarily having equal intensity. | Sounds with fundamental frequency and overton. |
Described by spectral power distribution similar to statistical distributions. | Described by weighted sums of sine’s and cosines. |
Random. | Ordere. |
Not Periodic. | Periodic.. |
Noise can be white noise, pink noise. | Consists of 5 elements: Melody,Harmony,Rhythm,Form, and Expression. |
Explanation of Solution
White noise can be described by a flat power spectrum {p(f) = constant},where p(f) is the spectral density expressed in W/Hz, power present in a signal as a function of frequency.
Pink noise can be described as
Melody - Pitch+Rhyth.
Harmony-Simultaneously occurring frequencies, chords.
Rhythm-Repetitive occurrence of sounds (or any events) over a particular time interval.
Form- Overall structure of music (What pattern it follows regarding repetition and variations!).
Expression- Elements used to communicate music in an effective manner. It can be a certain way ofphrasing, articulation etc.
Conclusion:
Sound we hear is polytonic, similar to that of light we see is polychromatic.
