Chapter 21, Problem 20CP
Summary Introduction
To determine:
The reason, as the compression of the common carotid arteries cause a person to lose consciousness.
Introduction:
The carotid artery transports blood in the neck region after arising from the aortic arch. The application of pressure decreases the flow of the blood to the neck and the brain. This occurs due to the closing of the aperture of the blood vessels. The supply of the oxygenated blood to the brain decreases leading to the feeling of unconsciousness in the person.
