Concept Introduction:
Nuclear equation:
A nuclear reaction is said to be balanced nuclear equation when the sums of the superscript and the sums of the subscripts must be equal on each equation.
Reactant mass number = product mass number
Reactant
In a nuclear equation we must explicit the proton, neutron, electrons that are producing the course of the fission reaction or fusion reaction.
Special symbol is used for the alpha and beta particle and for proton and neutrons.

If a current of 2.50 103 A passes through an electrolytic cell, how many kilograms of sodium perchlorate are produced per hour?arrow_forwardPhosphorous acid, H3PO3, is oxidized to phosphoric acid, H3PO4, by nitric acid, which is reduced to nitrogen monoxide, NO. Write the balanced equation for this reaction.arrow_forwardXenon trioxide, XeO3, is reduced to xenon in acidic solution by iodide ion. Iodide ion is oxidized to iodine, I2. Write a balanced chemical equation for the reaction.arrow_forward
- 4.48 Elemental phosphorous is used in the semiconductor industry. It can be obtained from an ore called fluoroapatite via reaction with SiO2 and C: 4Ca5( PO4)3F+18SiO2+30C3P4+30CO+18CaSiO3+2CaF2 Suppose a particular semiconductor production plant requires 1500 kg of P4. If the recovery of P4 from this reaction is 73% efficient, what mass of fluoroapatite is needed?arrow_forwardComplete and balance the equations for the following reactions. a. Li(s) + N2(g) b. (c) cadmium hydroxide added to a solution of acetic acid, CH3CO2Harrow_forward
- The amount of sodium hypochlorite in a bleach solution can be determined by using a given volume of bleach to oxidize excess iodide ion to iodine, because the reaction goes to completion. The amount of iodine produced is then determined by titration with sodium thiosulfate, Na2S2O3, which is oxidized to sodium tetrathionate, Na2S4O6. Potassium iodide was added in excess to 5.00 mL of bleach (density = 1.00 g/mL). This solution, containing the iodine released in the reaction, was titrated with 0.100 M Na2S2O3. If 34.6 mL of sodium thiosulfate was required to reach the endpoint (detected by disappearance of the blue color of the starch iodine complex), what was the mass percentage of NaClO in the bleach?arrow_forwardPhosphate buffers are important in regulating the pH of intracellular fluids. If the concentration ratio of H2PO4/HPO42 in a sample of intracellular fluid is 1.1: 1, what is the pH of this sample of intracellular fluid? H2PO4(aq)HPO42(aq)+H+(aq)Ka=6.2108arrow_forwardHow many grams of gaseous ammonia will the reaction of 3.0 g hydrogen gas and 3.0 g of nitrogen gas produce?arrow_forward
- Over coffee and croissants at breakfast one day, your friend Lena (an expert chemist) says this: "Group 1A metal hydrides react with water to produce hydroxides and hydrogen gas." Using Lena's statement, and what you already know about chemistry, predict the products of the following reaction. Be sure your chemical equation is balanced! NaH(s) + H2O(l) ->arrow_forwardAriana plans to react a sample of magnesium carbonate (MgCO3) with hydrochloric acid (HCl) to generate magnesium chloride (MgCl2), carbon dioxide gas (CO2), and liquid water (H2O).
