Chapter 21.2, Problem 2MQ
Summary Introduction
Acid mine drainage is the mixing of acidic water from mines into the surrounding water bodies. It leads to contamination of water bodies with acid, heavy metals from mines and sulfide minerals. It occurs when due to mining, pyrite is exposed to oxygen and then a mixture of pyrite, water, and oxygen leads to the formation of sulphuric acid.
