Summary Introduction

Often in nature, bacterial and archaeal cells encounter components of chemical and physical agents. These bacterial cells evolved ways to respond to such gradients either by moving away or by moving toward the element. A directed movement away or toward the gradients is termed as taxis. Such movement in response to a chemical compound is referred to as chemotaxis.
