Chapter 22, Problem 14CYU
Summary Introduction
To review:
The accessory muscles that are used for inspiration in a person experiencing respiratory distress and the muscles that are active during forced expiration.
Introduction:
The process of breathing includes the expansion and relaxation of lungs. Both of these actions are performed with the help of different types of muscles that contract and relax. These muscles control the movement of different regions of the thoracic cavity including the rib cage, lungs, and the diaphragm. In the case of respiratory distress, a different set of muscles are involved.
