Binary hydrides are compounds that contain hydrogen and one other element. Binary hydrides can be classified as ionic, covalent or metallic. Covalent hydrides have the lowest melting and boiling points because they have relatively weak intermolecular forces between molecules. Ionic hydrides have higher boiling and melting points because they have stronger ionic interactions between molecules.
