Chapter 22, Problem 8RC
Summary Introduction
To review:
Three types of elastic arteries that originate from the aortic arch.
Introduction:
The arteries are of three different types, namely, arterioles, muscular arteries, and elastic arteries. These arteries vary in thickness and diameter. For example, the elastic arteries have a diameter of about 2.5 cm (centimeter), whereas the muscular arteries have a diameter of approximately 4 mm (millimeter).
The elastic arteries are large blood vessels that carry blood from the heart. The intima layer of this artery is thick and is made up of endothelial cells, below which lies the elastic connective tissue and collagen fibers.
