Introduction:
The absorption and assimilation of food take place in the proximal portion of the small intestine with the support of pancreatic enzymes and bile salts. The majority of absorption of nutrients occurs in the small intestine. The nutrients which are absorbed in the small intestine are carbohydrates, proteins, fats, minerals, and vitamins. Apart from this, water and electrolytes are also absorbed in the small intestine.
