Chapter 23, Problem 4TYK
Summary Introduction
Introduction:
The cardiovascular system of a fish performs the exchange of gases between the surface of the fish and the body cells through the network of blood capillaries. The cardiovascular systems of the humans consist of the pulmonary system and systemic system. The blood flows inside the blood vessels and reaches the organs. Therefore, there are two circuits in humans and one circuit in fish.

Which of the choices below best describes the systemic circulation of blood?a. The flow of blood into the right atrium and eventually out of the left ventricle.b. The movement of blood from the pulmonary trunk, through capillaries into the pulmonary veins.c. The movement of blood into the coronary arteries, through capillaries into the coronary sinus.d. The movement of blood from the aorta, through arteries and capillaries and then eventually to the vena cavae.
The heart chamber that receives oxygenated blood from the lungs of animals with a double circulation is the a. left atrium. b. right ventricle.
c. left ventricle.
d. right atrium.
How would the left ventricle of a patient who had had high blood pressure for many years differ from the left ventricle of a normal heart?
A
it would have a larger volume of muscle
B
it would have a smaller volume of muscle
C
it would be smaller than the right ventricle
D
chronic high blood pressure would weaken the heart valves but would have no anatomical effects on the walls of the ventricles
