Summary Introduction
Symbiodinium is a genus that consists of largest as well as the most prevalent group of dinoflagellates. These organisms are endosymbionts that live in association with coral reefs. A coral that is developing will ingest and digest all the dinoflagellates except the Symbiodinium, which is its symbionts. The body unit of a coral polyp is colonial. The polyps produce a skeleton of coral, which is composed of calcium carbonate to strengthen and protect the organism.
