The earliest fossils of Homo were found in Tanzania, South Africa, and Ethiopia. These fossils are around 1.9 to 1.6 million years ago. The fist species of Homo found was Homo habilis. The older fossils of these species resembled australopithecines and the younger fossils resembled Homo erectus .
