When the pH (potential of hydrogen) of rainwater becomes lowers than 5, it is termed as acid rain. It is caused due to the increase in the sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) released from anthropogenic activities. On the other hand, smog is a mixture of fog and smoke, which is released from the automobiles’ exhaust and from the burning of fossil fuels.
