Chapter 24, Problem 3AAATB
Summary Introduction

To write:

The difference between reflexes and nervous system responses.

Introduction:

Reflexes are automatic responses to a stimulus. They are prewired in a circuit of neurons known as a reflex arc. It consists of a sensory neuron for receiving information from a sensory receptor, and a motor neuron for sending a message to the muscle that needs to respond.

The nervous system includes the brain, spinal cord, sensory organs, and the nerves that interconnect, receive and interpret these messages, and decide how to respond. This involves the actions of specialized cells known as neurons. Neurons, or nerve cells, carry electrical and chemical messages between the brain and other sections of our body. These message-carrying electrochemical cells can be combined to create structures known as nerves.
