Question
Chapter 24, Problem 5WIO
Summary Introduction
To determine:
The source from where the endosperm receives its nutrients while it develops inside the seed.
Concept introduction:
The endosperm is produced as a result of the double fertilization process. In double fertilization, a single sperm fertilizes the ovum or egg cell and there is the formation of a zygote. The other sperm cell is fused with two haploid nuclei of the central cell. The fusion of the sperm nucleus, with the haploid nuclei of the central cell results in the formation of the triploid nucleus. This triploid nucleus divides to form the endosperm.
