A cell is the structural, functional, and biological unit of all living organisms. It is smallest unit for life. A cell can be prokaryotic or eukaryotic. Eukaryotic cells contain membrane bound cell organelles, that help in functioning of cellular machinery by carrying out biochemical reactions.

A protist is eukaryotic in nature but it is not a plant, animal, or fungus. These organisms are microscopic and single celled. The cell of protists is organized and contains membrane bound nucleus and organelles just like in other eukaryotes. Examples of protists are amoeba, algae, and plasmodium.
