Chapter 24.3, Problem 3AYLO
Summary Introduction
To discuss:
A buffer resistance to the pH changes, physiological buffer system, and chemical buffer system.
Introduction:
The proper composition and balance of fluid, electrolyte, and acid–base are required to regulate the cellular functions of the body. The urinary, digestive, endocrine, lymphatic, nervous, cardiovascular systems etc. maintain these balances.
Fluid balance: Equal maintenance of fluid gain and loss; and proper distribution of fluid in the body.
Electrolyte balance: Equal maintenance of absorbed electrolytes by the small intestine and loss of electrolytes through urine in the body.
Acid–base balance: Maintenance of the stable body pH.

The buffer systems of blood, their role in maintenance of acid-base homeostasis
Maintaining pH homeostasis is critical for our body cells to remain healthy and to function well. In blood, a buffer system is heavily involved in this process, identify the specific buffer system and detail how it responds when blood becomes acidic, basic and in homeostasis.
Why in the initial phase of fluid replacement is rapid in both isotonic and hypotonic dehydration, but it is contraindicated in hypertonic dehydration
