Question
Chapter 25, Problem 10TYK
Summary Introduction
Introduction: The process of filtration takes place in the Bowman’s capsule. The afferent arteriole brings blood to the Bowman’s capsule where the hydrostatic pressure of the blood drives the filtration process.
The filtration of blood produces filtrate containing water, salts, amino acids, glucose and other substances. As the filtrate passes through the renal tubules, it is processed in a stepwise manner to finally produce urine that is highly concentrated.

High blood pressure often is accompanied by kidney damage. In somepeople the kidney damage is subsequent to the high blood pressure, but in others the kidney damage is what caused the high blood pressure. How would a low-salt diet enable you to determine whether the high blood pressure or the kidney damage came first?
The kidneys play a major role in maintaining
A)homeostasis by removing urea, water, and other wastes from the blood.
B)the concentration of digestive enzymes in the blood.
C)the proper glucose levels in the blood.
D)the proper breathing rate.

- In patients with diabetes mellitus, not enough insulin is produced; as a consequence, blood glucose levels increase. If blood glucose levels rise high enough, the kidneys are unable to absorb the glucose from the glomerular filtrate, and glucose "spills over" into the urine.
