The mesenteries are double sheet of serous membrane that connects the parietal peritoneum with the visceral peritoneum. It helps in keeping the organs attached to it in proper position and prevents them from getting entangled. Ventral mesentery is formed during development of septum transversum, which later forms diaphragm while caudal portion forms ventral mesentery sheet connecting ventral body wall and ventral surface of liver.
