Chapter 25, Problem 5TYR
Summary Introduction

Introduction:

Lipids are hydrophobic in nature, so the digestion and absorption of lipid is a more complicated process when compared to protein and carbohydrate digestion. Lingual lipase in the mouth secreted by intrinsic salivary glands digests small quantity of fat; this enzyme is more active in the stomach because of acidic pH. Emulsification droplets, micelles, and chylomicrons are involved in lipid digestion. The lymphatic vesicles seen in the small intestine absorbs digested fats.

Students have asked these similar questions
Lacteals absorb dietary a. proteins. d. vitamins. b. carbohydrates. e. lipids. c. enzymes.
A. They carry unneeded cholesterol back to the body's liver, where it is eliminated. 7. Which statement about high density lipoproteins is correct? B. They are responsible for the buildup of cholesterol in the body's arteries. C. They are not soluble in water. D. Their structure contains cholesterol and waxes. E. None of these statements is correct
Micelles increase the absorption of fat bya. binding the lipase enzyme and holding it on the surface of the lipid emulsion droplet.b. keeping the insoluble products of fat digestion in small aggregates.c. promoting direct absorption across the intestinal epithelium.d. metabolizing triglyceride to monoglyceride.e. facilitating absorption into the lacteals.
