Why is the following situation impossible? A politician is decrying wasteful uses of energy and decides to focus on energy used to operate plug-in electric clocks in the United States. While many people use their smartphone as an alarm clock, he estimates that there are still 270 million plug-in alarm clocks in continuous use. The clocks transform energy taken in by electrical transmission at the average rate 2.50 W. The politician gives a speech in which he complains that, at today’s electrical rates, the nation is losing $100 million every year to operate these clocks.
A compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) uses less energy than its equivalent incandescent bulb. How much will a person save if he/she uses a 20 W CFL instead of a 100 W incandescent lamp for 6 hours in 30 days? Electricity is priced at P8.17 kW/h.
An 11.6 W energy efficient fluorescent light bulb is designed to produce the same illumination as a 42.8 W incandescent light bulb. How much energy does the fluorescent bulb use if it is turned on for 10 hours? Answer in units of Joules. Answer to the one's place.

- 1. The Atmos clock(the so-called perpetual motion clock) gets its name from the fact that it runs off pressure vacations in the atmosphere, which drive a belows containing a mixture of gas and liquid ethyl chloride. Because the power to drive these clocks is so limited, they must be very efficient. In fact, a single 60.0 W lightbulb could power 240 million Atmos clocks simultaneously. Find the amount of energy, in joules, required to run an Atmos clock for one day. Explain and draws.arrow_forwardYou and your housemate have an argument over the cost of the electric bill. You want to turn off the outside porch light before going to bed each night. Your housemate wishes to keep the light on from 6:00 PM each evening to 6:00 AM the next morning and says that this will not add any significant amount to the electric bill. - Compact fluorescent bulbs aremuch more efficient at producing light than are ordinary incandescentbulbs. They initially cost much more, but they last far longer and usemuch less electricity. According to one study of these bulbs, a compactbulb that produces as much light as a 100 W incandescent bulb usesonly 23 W of power. The compact bulb lasts 10,000 hours, on the average, and costs $11.00, whereas the incandescent bulb costs only $0.75,but lasts just 750 hours. The study assumed that electricity costs $0.080per kilowatt-hour and that the bulbs are on for 4.0 h per day.
