Phytochrome is a blue green pigment present in plant leaf. This pigment involved in the photoperiodism that is the ability of plants to determine or sense the length of the night and day. This exposure of light or dawn results in the germination of seed, elongation of shoot and flowering of plant. The plant which requires long day to flowering are called as long day plant. The plant which requires short day to flowering are called as short day plant.
