Symmetric Difference Quotients In Example 8 we approximated an instantaneous rate of change by averaging two average rates of change. An alternative method is to use a single average rate of change over an interval centered at the desired value. We define the symmetric difference quotient of a function
(a) Compute the symmetric difference quotient for the function
(b) Show that the symmetric difference quotient of a function
(c) Use a symmetric difference quotient to estimate

- Average Rate of change A fucntion f is given. (a) Find the average rate of change of f between x=0 and x=0 , and the average rate of change of f between x=15 and x=50 .(b) Were the two average rates of change that you found in part (a) the same? (c) Is the function linear? If so, what is its rate of change? f(x)=83xarrow_forwardNet Change and Average Rate of Change A function is given either numerically, graphically, or algebraically). Find the net change and the average rate of change of the function between the indicated values. g(x)=(x+1)2 between x=a and x=a+harrow_forwardFilling a PondA large koi pond is filled from a garden hoseat the rate of 10 gal/min.Initially,the pond contains 300 galof water. (a) Find a linear function V that models the volume of waterin the pond at any time t . (b) If the pond has a capacity of 1300 gal, how long does it take to completely fill the pond?arrow_forward
- Net Change and Average Rate of Change A function is given either numerically, graphically, or algebraically). Find the net change and the average rate of change of the function between the indicated values. f(x)=x22x ; between x=1 and x=4arrow_forwardLinear Functions A linear functions is described either verbally, numerically, or graphically.
